CHOICE Humanitarian mourns the passing of our co-founder, Dr. Timothy “Tim” Evans, who passed away on May 21, 2026, at the age of 76. Tim’s compassion, vision, and lifelong commitment to service shaped the foundation of our organization and continue to guide our mission today.
Tim’s humanitarian journey began during his time as a young missionary in Peru, where he developed a deep love for the people of Latin America. In 1982, moved by the tragic story of a young girl who died from contaminated water, he founded the Andean Children’s Foundation. This initiative expanded when Tim partnered with Professor James Mayfield to establish CHOICE Humanitarian, built on the revolutionary philosophy that communities must lead their own development.
Tim firmly believed that international development was not about doing things for people but working through them so they could become self-reliant.
Though his efforts in clean water, education, and health earned him numerous accolades, Tim never sought recognition. He simply believed it was his duty to help others, beautifully embodying his favorite quote by Rabindranath Tagore:
“I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was duty. I acted and behold, duty was joy.”
Beyond his global impact, Tim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. He loved bringing people together in service—whether building wells abroad or playing the harmonica around a Utah campfire.
CHOICE Humanitarian is profoundly grateful for Tim’s four decades of leadership and example. His legacy lives on through the countless communities, staff, and partners he inspired. We extend our deepest condolences to Melissa Evans and the entire family.
With gratitude, we honor and remember Dr. Tim Evans.
