As shared in a previous memo, the Board of Directors is winding down CHOICE Humanitarian's central, U.S.-based operations and concluding its existence as a global non-profit organization. This transition looks different in each country where CHOICE has worked.
After more than four decades of impactful poverty alleviation, we want to share an update on how the legacy will continue, along with an invitation to support country teams at this important time.
In Ecuador, Guatemala, Kenya, and Nepal, long-established in-country teams are advancing toward organizational independence, building on the local leadership and community ownership that have always defined CHOICE’s work. These teams are experienced, deeply rooted in their communities, and committed to sustainable impact. The Board is actively engaged with the country directors to make the handoffs as successful as possible. Along with raising critical funds for the transition, we’re exploring partnerships with interested groups to help the teams reach independence. This evolution reflects what is central to the CHOICE tradition: lasting change is led by people within their own communities.
For Peru and Bolivia, CHOICE has fulfilled its transition commitments, and each country team is determining its next steps. As those plans take shape, we recognize with immense gratitude and respect the extraordinary impact achieved in each country. Countless lives and communities have been strengthened through the dedication of these local teams and country directors.
How Your Crucial Donation Can Honor a Legacy
“Legacy is not leaving something for people. It’s leaving something in people.”
— Peter Strople
As we wind down U.S. operations, we have the opportunity to ensure the roots of a legacy continue. To do that, we invite all who have been touched by CHOICE to make a vital donation.
Whether you’re a CHOICE friend, supporter, expeditioner, former staff or board member, volunteer, partner, or like-minded humanitarian—now is the chance to express gratitude and honor the impact that CHOICE has had in your life.
Your generous donations will support meeting current obligations, completing in-progress projects, and establishing a financial runway for the country teams so that, in the spirit of the CHOICE approach, they transition to independent, self-developing operations poised to scale and create even more impact.
As part of the Board’s careful stewardship of remaining resources, a volunteer committee of several board members currently manages limited central operations, with support from a part-time accountant. Donations during this final chapter for CHOICE Humanitarian will only be used to support the country teams or local commitments.
You can donate now on the website or send a check (CHOICE Humanitarian, PO Box 409 Draper, UT 84020). For other ways to donate, please contact info@choicehumanitarian.org. Donations will be accepted through the end of the year.
